Sarah Elaine holds a Ph.D. in Musicology from Duke University and is Visiting Faculty at UNC School of the Arts. She is currently working on a monograph, European Musical Modernism and the American Audience, 1880-1940, and she will be contributing a chapter to the forthcoming book Leonard Bernstein and the Nation’s Capital: Works, Politics, Performances, edited by Daniel Abraham, Alicia Kopfstein-Penk, and Andrew H. Weaver.

During summer 2016 she will be presenting research on music criticism, modernism, and cultural currency in early twentieth-century America at conferences in Helsinki and Paris. With the support of the Rudolf Ganz Research Fellowship from the Newberry library she will complete research on Frederick Stock and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
